I’ll bet most of you think I’m going to talk about my marriage. Sorry to mislead you, but we’re doing fine. As a matter of fact, Bill and I celebrated our 27th anniversary on Friday by going out to brunch at La Creperie in Fort Collins. We followed that up with a visit to the hole-in-the-wall bakery counter just around the corner and bought a few goodies to take home. All is well, except for the extra calories I consumed and now need to shed.
The ball and chain I’m talking about is my troublesome knee. I twisted it during my last trip out of town in early December and it’s taking its own sweet time to get better.
In some ways, being hobbled is a good thing. It keeps me home and encourages me to read and write. But there are a few events I plan to attend this spring where this problem knee is going to cramp my style.
I have a short trip planned to see our new granddaughter (born in the wee hours Saturday morning), I’m signed up for Left Coast Crime 2013 in March, and the Northern Colorado Writers Conference in April. And I plan to head out of town again to visit my mom.
The grape vines must be pruned in February, two more raised 4×4 garden beds will be installed for me in March bringing the total to four, and I have a big long list of garden chores to perform as soon as the weather is nice.
And then there are my blogging and writing projects. Can’t neglect those.
Meanwhile, as I exercise and coddle and apply ice packs and heat packs, I’ll also be dragging my ball and chain (translated as limping, using a knee brace, and sometimes toting a cane, just in case).
Stupid old knee.
