I found these Thanksgiving-related quotes at brainyquote:
“Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence.”
—————Erma Bombeck
“I celebrated Thanksgiving in an old-fashioned way. I invited everyone in my neighborhood to my house, we had an enormous feast, and then I killed them and took their land.”
—————Jon Stewart
Well, it’s obvious I wasn’t striving for sentimentality.
As you know, I’m easily distracted and have been known to wander off topic. Having a quote here from Erma Bombeck made me wonder what other Erma gems I might find. There was one on football:
“Anybody who watches three games of football in a row should be declared brain dead.”
—————Erma Bombeck
I cannot argue with that.
Galen Kindley--Author says
Happy Thanksgiving, Patricia. May it be warm, safe, and fun!
Best Wishes, Galen.

These are gems. Erma was one of the funniest women who ever lived. She is dearly missed. So glad her quotes, books, wisdom, etc. live on.

Gayle, that breaks my heart. She’s the one humorist I’d most like to emulate (if only I were funny). If you get that book published, I definitely want to read it.
For those of you who do remember Erma, let’s all remember her in our Thanksgiving toasts tomorrow. She’s truly someone to be thankful for. If laughter is the best medicine, every medicine cabinet should contain at least one of her books.
Gayle Carline says
Great quotes, Pat! Writing a humor column, ala Bombeck, I’ve been trying to put a book of some of my columns together, and I wanted to call it “What Would Erma Do? Confessions of a First Time Humor Columnist.” I took it to a read & critique, where at least 3 people said, “Who’s Erma?” I could have wept.
Elspeth Antonelli says
Erma Bombeck! I have almost all of her books and I laugh every time I read them. To be able to make people smile even after you’re gone…not such a bad legacy.

I was such an Erma Bombeck fan, both her books and her columns. When I wrote a weekly newspaper column years ago she was my idol and role model. There will never be another one like her.

I love the Jon Stewart quote. Too funny. Happy Thanksgiving!
Terry Odell says
Love Erma! Thanks for the reminders — but alas, my collection of her books is in storage pending moving. Could be a long time before I get to read them again.
Have a great day.

Oh, thanks for these, Patricia! I love Erma Bombeck – such a shame that she’s gone…
Elizabeth Spann Craig says
I love these! Too funny!!
Happy Thanksgiving, Patricia.
