A Little More About That Road Trip to Illinois

October 4, 2010 By: Patricia

On our road trip through eastern Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois, we saw a lot of country that looked like this:

And some that looked like this:

And I attended that 50th high school class reunion where we had a chance to revisit and tour our school and reminisce about the torture inflicted on us in this very classroom where Max Beberman devised the new math, using us as guinea pigs.

I’m not going to post a bunch of reunion photos since I don’t have permission to publish my classmates’ faces all over the Internet, but this lucky shot I took during the tour works fine. Those two teenagers by the blackboard were our student guides, who also did interviews and took photos during the tour.

I think I’ve done that road trip! At least it sounds like the end target made it worthwhile.

The pictures look really exotic to me–very different from the landscape out my window! Gald you had a good time at the reunion.

I’ve lived in the midwest – it doesn’t get much better than that!

I’ve made one cross-country road trip east. I remember how the flatness blew my mind. I’m a western gal.

My 8th grade class just held its 50th reunion. All I could think was “Who are these old people?”
    A humbling experience.

Good morning, everyone — Even though I only posted those two shots that showed the most dramatic landscapes, each state does have varied terrain. We traveled from absolutely flat to rolling hills, and near the rivers the tree-covered hill were beautiful. It was a bit too early for the leaves to start turning though.

We drove through parts of the mid-west in August and saw lots of flat land that is far different from the Virginia terrain. We also saw the most amazing perfect rainbow that went from one horizon to the other. That would be impossible to see in my home state. In fact, it was the first rainbow like that I ever remember seeing!

Road trips are great. I hope you had a wonderful time. Now that I’m on face book, and have former classmates following me, I will probably be invited to our class reunion next year. Not far to go, Arvada, Colorado. That’s about 15 min. from my house.

One thing about mid-west photos like these — you can name any mid-west state and be correct. Yet, every place has it’s own beauty.Mary
