A quick weekend in San Francisco to visit our 18-month-old granddaughter included a little zoo time, and a lot of playground time. The highlights:
One of the beautiful carousels in San Francisco is The 1914 Herschell-Spillman Carousel at Golden Gate Park

I guess it’s pretty obvious this was a kid-centered trip. But the weather was beautiful that weekend with very little fog and lots of sunshine, so parks and playgrounds and zoos were a great way to spend our days.
And I did get a crazy horror story idea about carousels . . .

I really love the idea of a petting zoo. As you can make out from the wistfulness in my voice, we don’t have them in India.
And I love carousals.

I always learn so much from your comments. I never thought about a carousel figure repair shop, Monti. Maybe that’s where the horror story should take place. What do think, Alex? In the park, or in the repair shop?
Monti says
I have a completed novel that originally had the title, Chasing Carousel Horses. It has a different title now, and I hope to start sending it out soon. Those handcrafted masterpieces are amazing. I remember seeing some carousel figures under repair in a very rural Arizona shop a few years ago.
Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos…

You’ll have to tell us more about the horror story idea!

Hey, one of the joys of “retirement” is to travel.
[I don’t think writers ever retire. Give up, maybe. But not retire.]
Patricia Stoltey says
The only bad part about this trip was that we flew in on Friday night and left Monday noon. Next time we go, we’re adding extra days to the visit so we can play tourist.

I remember the flying horses (as we called them back East) at Savin Rock when I was a child. I loved to ride on the merry go round. Thanks for bringing back a fond memory, Pat.

Ooh, write that story! Glad you had fun.

Zoos are great. (I used to work for one). My grandson is a regular at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and although he loves feeding the giraffes, if he had his way, he’d spend his entire time on the carousel (mostly watching the drums on the music-making thingie.)

I’ve always thought those carousals were kinda evil. Maybe the creatures will come alive and run amok in the park.

Beautiful pictures. And don’t you love it when inspiration strikes in an unlikely place?

Thanks for sharing the great photos. What a wonderful time you must have had, Patricia, and especially with that precious granddaughter!

San Francisco is one of my favorite cities, fog or no fog. Grandbaby time is so precious. You are lucky, Patricia.
