I had blog posts to write, critiques to do, hotel reservations to make, blogs to visit, banana muffins to bake, and a book revision schedule to outline. But first, I went to the Farmer’s Market.
This was my first Farmer’s Market trip of the year. I love them, enjoy visiting at least one almost every week, and buy a lot of things I don’t really need. It’s great.
Yesterday was a warm sunny morning in Northern Colorado so the excursion was a real pleasure, especially following the many rainy days we’ve had over the last couple of weeks. There are so many temptations at a Farmer’s Market. Like kettle corn. Pumpkin chocolate chip bread. Fresh locally grown asparagus that costs so much you’d think it was gold-plated.
Instead, I bought a package of whole wheat tortillas (small) for mini-fajitas. Bought a round of Camembert and a round of ColoRouge from MouCo Cheese Company. And could not resist a loaf of unsliced honey wheat bread from one of the bakery stalls (where I sampled a tiny bit of that pumpkin chocolate chip bread which was very, very delicious).
This market is held in the parking lot of a large strip mall with several stores I visit whenever I can. Even though I have no time to read these days, I stopped in at Reader’s Cove bookstore and bought a copy of The Bride’s House by Sandra Dallas as well as Anthem by Ayn Rand. The attached coffee house was a great place to pick up an iced latte, so I did that as well. The deli next door was calling me to stop for a bag of their monster homemade double chocolate biscotti, but I finally got control of my appetite and my purse and headed for the car.
At home, I sat down at my computer and wrote the necessary blog posts. By then it was way too late for a nap, so I did a few household chores. That left me with one hour to relax before preparing those chicken mini-fajitas. With a Jesse Stone made-for-TV movie to look forward to, I knew there was little chance I’d finish the critiques. They’re now on the list for first thing this morning, followed by the other tasks I failed to complete yesterday.
I’m sure your Sunday was way more exciting than mine. Want to share?

I love the Farmers Markets in town–there’s always something new and exciting to try. It’s also great that it’s by a bookstore, coffee shop, and deli–a great way to spend a Sunday!

My mouth salivated all the way through your post. The gold plated aspargus is an image that I will ponder for a while. Pumpkin chocolate chip bread…now there’s decadence. The whole day sounded delicious and I’m sure your spirit was nurtured.

I showed up at last Saturday’s market thinking it had just started and it was getting ready to close. Still managed to score some mushrooms and basil-asiago bread, though…

I love the farmer’s market! Your post made me very hungry!
My Sundays are exciting only if I have a Monday deadline and I’ve procrastinated far too long on a project. Hmm . . . that could describe this coming Sunday unless I get some writing done today!

Sundays are really simple days for us. We had church in the morning and just took it easy after that. Watched a bit of TV, had a nap, had a nice walk around a quiet neighbourhood with camera at the ready!

Linda –I think you did good if you got the broccoli in and the snow peas weeded. My only garden this year will be a container garden of herbs by my front door…and a few flowers, of course.
Hi Edna. The Jesse Stone movies are so good. I hope you’ll be able to watch it on your computer…or in reruns.
Dean — your 9 days off sound way too busy. After weeks like that, I love seeing an empty calendar.

Sunday was my first day back at work after 9 days off. The week was crazy with two graduations, one day fishing, three meals out, 12 people in, ghost tour of stanley hotel, rainstorms, and the like. So coming in to work really wasn’t all that bad until….the weather shut down the airport, co-workers called in sick, I didn’t get much writing in, though early in the morning before work I re-pizzazed an old blog site to use for my fly fishing articles. Pretty typical day, I guess….

You all are so much more productive on a Sunday than I am. And I got to writing and completely forgot about the Jesse Stone movie, which so ticks me off!

Yesterday seems so far away that I don’t remember what I did. Let me think…my husband and I went to one of the local nurseries for sheep & peat compost, or was that Saturday? I did plant four broccoli and weeded the snow peas and then watched the same Jesse Stone movie.

Hi Jemi, we have multiple markets on Saturday and Sunday, but I read in the paper yesterday that there’s a move afoot to establish a large indoor/outdoor market that will be open year round and will include the local food coop plus more artsy-crafty stuff. That would be awesome.
Closets…I don’t even want to think about the closets.
Jemi Fraser says
Our Farmer’s Market is only on Saturdays – we haven’t been yet this year – maybe next week.
My Sunday was spent cleaning out closets and figuring out what to toss and what to donate 🙂

Margot — they’re even fun before the fresh produce is available because we have so many small local food producers…everything from vinegars and sauces to wines and cheeses.
Jan — Hanging around and talking about books and other writerly things would be heavenly. I get to do that tomorrow morning at our writers coffee…
Hi Karen — your Sunday sounds pretty awesome too. We have a lot of summer outdoor concerts in my town so I try to hit as many of those as I can.
Heidi — our next door neighbors had a graduation party this weekend for their daughter — cannot figure out where the time went. She was just a little kid when they moved into their house.
Kathy, thanks for coming by. I see you’re another of the A to Z participants I hadn’t met yet. I’ll return the visit in just a minute.
Oh, Terry, that sounds like such fun. We get to be daycare for our 2-year-old granddaughter for one week in June, and I can hardly wait.
Diane — This morning I bought weed and feed and a couple of plants…now it will take me a few days to work up the energy to finish the job.

LOL! We purchased a birdbath to replace a dead bush in our flower bed. Very exciting.

We had our 3-year-old grandson for his first sleepover Saturday night so his parents could go up to Cripple Creek for their anniversary. We also had the dog, so very little actual sleep happened Saturday night. Lots of exciting ‘kid stuff’ — baked cookies, play-doh, craft projects. We didn’t have warm sunny weather, so we were indoors.
Then, Sunday afternoon I drove down to the Springs for a RWA chapter meeting. (We’re talking 80 miles round trip). Had our usual Sunday dinner in Divide, and I was in bed at 9:30.

I love the farmer’s markets too. Ours just started up again last Saturday.

Ah–the Farmer’s Market. I would love to go, but I always work on Sundays. At the Subway right next to the Farmer’s Market. I get there before it begins and leave work after it is over, so I’m never able to go!
But I do enjoy going to the Reader’s Cove to buy books.
My niece graduated from Windsor High School yesterday, so after work I went to her graduation party. It was filled with high school students, and I love talking to them/listening to their conversations. Teenagers are endlessly fascinating to me–I just love meeting people at that time in their life. Which is probably why I taught high school. And write YA novels.

First of all, congrats on reaching your goal – 300 followers. Woo hoo!
Your Sunday sounds delightful to me. I went to Santa Fe with two girlfriends to hear another girlfriend sing with her choir. The conversation during the one-hour trip was fabulous, the concert delightful, the desserts to die-for, and the ride home tiring.

Pat – we got our chicks on Saturday and yesterday I spent tidying up the house, writing, and helping my guy make a dinner for friends to share. We had a wonderful time, sat around afterwards talking books. yay.

Pat – Oh, farmer’s markets are so much fun! It’s no wonder you spent more time there than you’d planned. They’re so full of colour, fresh food, all kinds of crafts, what’s not to like?
Patricia Stoltey says
Thanks, Jenny. It was a fun run even though it took awhile.
Jenny says
I didn’t make it to the farmer’s market yesterday, but I’m so glad they’ve started up again.
P.S. Congratulations on reaching 300!
