Hi Kay — I tend to go down when a writer I know is having a signing at Old Firehouse, then add in a stop at Ben & Jerry’s for an extra treat. The last couple of times I was in Old Town, there was a lot going on.
John, that’s great. Tell Libby I love the concept and the art (and the music when brave souls sit down to play).
Pat, there do seem to be a lot of artists, musicians, and writers in Northern Colorado. Makes a stroll around town a lot of fun.
L.G. — I didn’t know about the painted geese. I’ll be on the lookout the next time I get to Longmont.
Dorte, I can’t see a problem with painting the pianos and using them to spread a little joy about town. The pianos seem to like it, too, especially when someone sits down to play. π
As for painting concrete walls, I’m all for that as well. I think we have wall art in town already, so I’ll have to track them down and take photos for a future blog post.
Pat, How cool is this! My daughter, Libby Colbert, is a project manager for Art in Public Places. The Pianos About Town is one of her projects. She’s going to be very proud when she sees your great photos. JP
Love all the arty stuff you have! You’re lucky to live someplace with all that. Though I have the stranges urge to stand up and do the Time Warp in my office.
Pat – Oh, wow! Pianos! I love pianos and used to play years ago. And there some lovely art in your town, too – how cool. Funny you’d mention Rocky Horror…. One of the cinemas in the town I grew up in used to show that every week at midnight, and it drew such a cult following. People used to dress up, etc..

I must do that one of these days, Shannon…I seem to have missed all the really important stuff in my life. π
Shannon says
Love Ft. Collins and Fireside Books! and Rocky Horror–they’re having two showings here in Flagstaff on Halloween. I am getting my props together.

Reading aloud would disturb the fish, Dean. π
No sense in leaving the house if we don’t pay attention to all the wonders that surround us.

Pat: if that’s your style of fishing, you can go with me anytime…as long as you read loud enough so I can hear you while I’m fishing.
Great photos and so nice you’ve taken time to notice. Many people don’t…

Mike, you’re most welcome. I’ll send the original along via e-mail as soon as I finish with this week’s procrastinating. π

Pat,
Thanks for taking a picture of my signing at Old Firehouse Books.

Very true, Alex. And musicians and writers and sculptors too.

You have a lot of artists in your town!

Nice pictures. Glad you get around town more than I do.

Great pictures, but hey, they shouldn´t paint old pianos! Can´t they find some ugly, concrete walls instead π

For some reason we have giant painted geese in Longmont as part of the art in public places effort. I’ve found about seven of them so far.

There seems to be a lot of art about in your town. That’s awesome! The pianos in public is an amazing idea.

Margot, I used to play piano too, but I’ve never had the nerve to sit down at one of these and play the only thing I remember…chopsticks.
Diane, painted pigs sound like a lot of fun. I also saw a bunch of painted cows in a town I visited, maybe Colorado Springs?
Hart, I’ve never been to a Rocky Horror Show, but after seeing this flash mob do the Time Warp, I may have to check it out.
Jenny — LOL. Heck, no. I was afraid I’d spill my cup of Ben & Jerry’s “Coffee, Coffee, Buzz, Buzz, Buzz”, so I just took pictures.
Jenny says
Great photos, Pat. Did you jump in and join the flash mob?

You have a lot of pianos in your town. We have painted pigs. Not quite the same thing.
