I wish ice cream was the most healthy food in the universe, more healthy even than fruits and vegetables.
It’s not an accident that many of my wishes have to do with food. I grew up on a farm where we worked hard and were able to eat a lot without getting fat. Most of what we ate we grew ourselves–veggies from the garden, fruit from the orchard, or beef/milk, pork, and chickens/eggs from our own stock. There was plenty of food and no one had to hold back. We even slathered home-churned butter on our veggies without a second thought. In the summertime, the biggest treat was homemade ice cream. My mom used an uncooked mix…back then we didn’t fret about salmonella from our eggs.
Times have sure changed. For me, ice cream is now a once a month treat. I’m especially fond of Ben & Jerry’s Coffee, Coffee, Buzz, Buzz, Buzz. I do have a Cuisinart ice cream maker which is pretty cool, but I mostly use it for interesting frozen yogurt concoctions. A container of ice cream in my freezer would be way too tempting.

I never met an icecream I didn’t like. A wonderful food group all on its own :).

I remember ice cream. I’m a vegan, so it’s been almost 20 years since I had any. Eddy’s Fruit Sorbet is a good substitute though.

Pat, that’s awesome – I’ve never met anyone else who was crazy about Coffee Coffee, Buzz Buzz Buzz! That’s my absolute FAVORITE Ben & Jerry’s flavor!
Boy am I with you on this one too. I so wish ice cream was more of an everyday food!!

Ice cream, good one! I usually stick to frozen yogurt in order to count calories, but there’s nothing like a big ice cream cone on a hot day at a beach.
I’m over from A to Z so stop by and say hi if you like (Catherine Stine’s Idea City).

It’s like an every-other month treat for me. And I’ll take anything with a chocolate and peanut butter mix.

Oh, frozen yogurt. That’s my treat. And sorbets. I especially love the interesting herb/fruit blends that some of our local restaurants will whip up for a dessert special.

I love coffee ice cream, too, but somehow I’ve missed the Ben & Jerry’s version. I’ll have to find some ASAP!

Isn’t ice cream healthy? π Can we just call it healthy? I’ve got about 3 or 4 gallons in the freezer right now…love that stuff!

Pat – Oh, I know what you mean about homemade ice cream – yum! I didn’t grow up on a farm, but I did grow up near farm country and you could get incredible ice cream at farmers’ markets nearby. These days I only indulge myself once in a while, but the treat is worth the wait.
