I’m Back from Conference!

September 14, 2015 By: Patricia

But when I got home yesterday afternoon, my brain was ready to explode from information overload and I was so exhausted and so energized and so excited that I couldn’t even take a nap.

It didn’t help that some goofball had tried his room key in the wrong slot at 2: 00 a.m. Sunday morning, waking me out of a sound sleep as he tried the key, pushed on the door, and mumbled at his inability to get into his room. He must have quickly realized his error and moved on, but by then the jolt of adrenaline was enough to keep me from getting back into a deep sleep.

All that explains why I’m moving around like a zombie and have had to correct umpteen gazillion typos in this short little post…I hope I caught them all.

As soon as I get a few necessary chores caught up, I’ll write about some of the highlights. Like sitting close enough behind Jeffery Deaver at the Friday night booksigning to lean back and touch him on the arm with the intention of absorbing some of his great work ethic, awesome attitude, and…yes…wouldn’t it be lovely to brush a little of his success onto my hands and then rub it all over my…..oh goodness….perhaps I was influenced a little by our other wonderful guest Desiree Holt, writer extraordinaire of romance and…you knew it…erotica. She’s another writer who was great to have a conference because she began writing later in life, as many of us do, and this amazing woman writes 6-7 hours a day and has enough published novels under her belt to make me feel like a true slacker.Β  I had a chance to be around her a bit Sunday morning and found her to be absolutely charming.

So, as I recover and catch up on my sleep, I’ll write more about some of the fun stuff I did, the important things I learned (not all of them about writing), and hopefully will figure out how to get the photos off my tablet and into my computer. We had a 9th floor room with a view…of the mountains and I did my best to capture a photo through the glass.

Have a wonderful Monday while I play catch up.

Welcome back, Pat! I know all about the post-conference zombie blues, too. I hope you catch up on your rest soon, and I’ll be looking forward to learning from you.

Mostly you’ll be learning how much fun I can have even with a bum knee. πŸ˜€

Sounds like a great time and what a lineup of speakers! That is scary when someone tries to get in your room late at night.

Those speaker were awesome — and I must post later about the amazing speech our Writer of the Year Susan Spann gave. She inspired all of us!

Excellent! Looking forward to hearing more about the conference. And I think that whole key situation needs to be in a dark story/horror novel – gives me the creeps. πŸ™‚

It was definitely a scary moment until I figured out the person was just a dumbhead and not a crazed ax murderer. πŸ˜€

Glad you had a good time!
I wouldn’t have gotten back to sleep if that had happened to me.

Awesomely good, Alex! Even with the interrupted sleep…

Meet Patricia

I read, I write, I blog, and sometimes I do the laundry and cook. My 2014 novel, Dead Wrong, was a finalist in the thriller category of the 2015 Colorado Book Awards. Wishing Caswell Dead (Five Star/Cengage, December 20, 2017) is a historical mystery set in 1830s Illinois in the fictitious Village of Sangamon.
