Guest Bloggers
Every week I plan to feature a guest author on Thursday/Friday. I have plenty of Thursdays open January through March, so if you’re interested in being one of my featured guests, just let me know. If you don’t already have my email address, you can leave your contact information below in the comments or send me a private message on Facebook. At that time, I’ll also give you my submission guidelines for length, photos, etc.
Guest posting can be especially helpful if you have a book release scheduled or some special event to promote, so don’t hesitate to contact me for future months as well. My guest this Thursday is Tracee Sioux whose October 2014 book release (The Year of YES!: What if you said YES! to everything your Soul told you to do for one year?) has a title eerily similar to Shonda Rhimes new book (Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person). I’m excited to read both of these books….I think I need a little boost to become more adventurous.
Snow?
We’re supposed to get snow starting sometime this afternoon. Predictions are iffy again, but the temperatures are already dropping and the wind has picked up, so maybe we’ll get at least a couple of inches. Maybe.
Rehabbing the Knee and Reading While I Ice a Sore Muscle
I guess I was a little over-enthusiastic with my exercises and physical therapy because I managed to pull a muscle in the front of my thigh. It’s not too serious because I can walk, climb stairs, and use the exercise bike, but most of the exercises that use the quads are pretty painful. And that’s why I’m about to head back to my easy chair and plant an ice pack right where it hurts the most.
The only thing that’s good about this development is that I gain an extra hour or so of reading time each day this week while I’m icing. I’m now reading This Side of Midnight First Light by Al Lamanda.
My most recent good reads include The Child Garden by Catriona McPherson, The Devil’s Lament by Kenneth W. Harmon, The White Gates by Bonnie Ramthun, Big Magic: Creative Living Without Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert, and The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo. I enjoyed all of these books, but ran into a mental block when Marie Kondo’s organizing strategies started to involve proper folding of shirts and socks. That’s not happening here. The organizing strategies she outlines, however, make good sense…..except I need to start with furniture and electronics and leave the clothing category until later.
The World Hurts and I Don’t Have Any Idea How to Fix It
Even though I’m able to read some fictional horror, I have a hard time dealing with horror in real life. The murder of innocent people in countries around the world is painful to watch. It reduces me to tears, makes me feel helpless and lost, and causes me to fear the unknown. I don’t know how people who’ve lived in a war zone environment for most of their lives cope. You won’t find me being philosophical on social media because I don’t have any answers for anything. And that’s all I have to say about that.

Patricia, saw your Facebook post. I would be interested in a guest blog spot sometime in 2016, probably March. I am a former Coloradan, now in California.
Patricia says
Hi Janet — I’ll email you tomorrow at the email address in your comment ID. I have plenty of open dates in March!
Susan Gourley says
Your last paragraph seemed like something I might write. I don’t know what the answer is. My daughter in Boston has done some work with refugees and she’s so distressed about how this latest attack is going to affect those poor people.
I’m not surprised you over did it with your rehab. I can’t imagine you taking it slow. At least you have a good reason not to shovel that snow.
I would love to guest post sometime in the new year. And remember you’re always welcome on my blog.
Patricia says
It’s sad, Susan. Most U.S. citizens want to do the right thing. The hard part is weighing the safety of those who already live here against the humanitarian need of refugees escaping horrible conditions in their own countries. I don’t have any answers. I wish I did.
I have lots of guest Thursdays open first quarter 2016, so if you have an idea when you’d like to have your post appear, let me know now and we’ll get you on the calendar. I’m hoping to do more guest blogging myself next year, so I’ll add you to my contact list. Thanks for the offer.
Rachna Chhabria says
I will keep the guest post in mind, whenever I have a book release coming up π Hope your leg is okay now?
Patricia says
I’m making good progress with the knee rehab, Rachna. Feels odd having an artificial joint though. π
Dean K Miller says
Enjoyed “The White Gates” not sure I’m brave enough for “The Devi’s Lament”! The world can be painful, which is why I try to spread a smile whenever I can. Love, hope, and peace has to start somewhere, it might as well be me. Can’t wait to read Tracee’s post. She’s full of energy like no other.
Patricia says
I’ll admit The Devil’s Lament has some tough subject matter, but so far it’s my favorite Kenneth W. Harmon novel. He has quite an interesting imagination.
Madeline Mora-Summonte says
I’m enjoying Gilbert’s BIG MAGIC book. I’m going to make a note of the decluttering one as well, but I’m with you on forgetting about proper folding. π
Patricia says
Big Magic is going to stay in my bookcase instead of traveling on to another reader, Madeline. I can see myself reading that one again next year (probably during a bout of self-doubt). π
Margot Kinberg says
What’s going on in the world right now is incomprehensible, Pat. I think we’re all distraught by it… I think that’s why it can be helpful to just concentrate on the day-to-day things, like healing up, reading, Katie Cat, etc..
Patricia says
It helps to escape the news and get those images out of our minds, Margot. Nowadays we’re faced with too much information repeated over and over, and it flows non-stop.
Alex J. Cavanaugh says
I wish we would get snow.
Not sure when the IWSG Anthology will come out, but would be awesome to get a guest spot here for it next year.
Patricia says
Just let me know when, Alex. I’ll always have a place for you and for the IWSG gang.
