My husband and I drove from Colorado to Illinois last Thursday/Friday, picked up Sassy the Scottish Terrier on Saturday morning, then drove back to Colorado over Saturday and Sunday. The dog traveled better than the humans did. Road trips are exhausting at our age. Sassy, of course, is much younger. She seemed to remember me even though it had been a year since I saw her, and she took to my husband right away even though they’d never met.
On the way home, we experienced one unpleasant, unleashed dog encounter…but no one got hurt. We suffered through high winds and blowing dust in Kansas which has left me with a dust allergy attack. We ate a couple of meals that might have been the reason for my intestinal upset yesterday….or perhaps I caught the bug that was going around at my mom’s assisted living facility. One of the motels we stayed at tried to put us in a room in which the temperature was about 100 and the air conditioner didn’t cool…but we did get moved to a room with a more acceptable environment.
And we survived.
We arrived back home late Sunday afternoon and introduced Sassy Dog to Katie Cat.
Monday and Tuesday have been interesting. I’ve tried to take some pictures but haven’t had a chance to load them up yet and see if they’re good enough to post. Hopefully I can get that done before the weekend.
Stay tuned. I’ll tell more soon.
Meanwhile, please join me Thursday in welcoming one of my fellow Five Star authors, Jacqueline Seewald.

Hope you can catch them in a photo!
Patricia says
I’m working on it, Alex. I already have photos of Sassy watching television . She seems to prefer Animal Planet but some of the shows are really alarming. There was one with chimpanzees that was noisy and rowdy and the dog got noisy and rowdy too. I recorded an episode of “Too Cute” with all cats and kittens and a calming narrator voice, and Sassy sits calmly and watches.
There’s a reason she gets glued to the television, but I’ll tell that story later.
Madeline Mora-Summonte says
I think I’d still rather take a road trip than fly.
Glad you all made it back in one piece and that your household is settling down. 🙂
Patricia says
Madeline, flying has also become a much-hated method of transportation for me lately, and has been for my husband for a long time. The road trip would have been fine if we had been on vacation and could have done a little sight-seeing and stopped more often. But the way we did it was exhausting. Oh, well, we do what we think we have to do, right?
Margot Kinberg says
So happy that you have Sassy in your household, Pat! I hope she and Katie Cat get along well. And I know exactly what you mean about long road trips. I’ve done them myself, and they are completely exhausting. Hope you get a chance to rest up.
Patricia says
Hi Margot! I think Sassy and I will be taking a long nap today. She has a wellness visit to a vet this morning so we’ll both be tired from that.
L. Diane Wolfe says
Long road trips drain me. I hope Sassy and Katie Cat don’t kill each other.
Patricia says
Diane, we’re not going to let that happen. We love our Katie Cat too much.
Susan Gourley says
I was wondering when the dog was going to arrive. Glad your trip wasn’t too adventurous. Kansas is a long, long drive. How did people ever do that in covered wagons?
Patricia says
Susan, a covered wagon trip would make Kansas seem as if it lasted all the way to the ocean. It feels neverending even in a car.
