2017 will be full of accomplishment, joy, and lots of good writing for all us.
We will make it so.
I’m not doing resolutions, not even a “things I will not do” list as I did last year.
This year I will embrace change, flexibility, and experimentation (in writing and new hobbies…nothing naughty).
I’m going to post more often on my blog, but I’ll be aiming for more introspection, writing life humor, photos, and book reviews. I’ll still host guest authors whenever they request a spot, but I’m going to spend less time searching for guests. Just know that you authors are invited, but you need to contact me.
It’s all about reclaiming as much time for writing as possible.
And then making myself sit down at the computer, turn off the internet, open Word, and write.
By the way, speaking of the internet, I will continue to encourage everyone to get off social media and live life face-to-face. I’ve already cut my social media time way down, and it’s all good.
If you need more encouragement, please read this blog post by James Scott Bell on the Kill Zone Blog: Social Media is Eating Your Brain.

Hi Pat, have to agree about cutting down on social media’ in particular jolly Fb… lovely blog. Nice meeting up with you on twitter today @CazsBooks Caz
Patricia says
I like Twitter more than other sites, Caz. It’s where we can connect with nice people from around the world we’d never meet otherwise.

Hee hee! I’m actually trying to do more on social media. Not a lot more, just one additional outlet. Maybe. I might just play more with my blog and on Goodreads. I’m going to check out that article, though….
Wishing you all the best in 2017!

For me, spending less time on Facebook is the biggest time saver. Sassy Dog will be disappointed though. She likes to sit in my lap and watch me scroll through my newsfeed looking for animal videos.

Ordinarily I don’t make any goals or resolution, but I thought I’d change it up, see what happens. Happy New Year!
Patricia says
Thanks for stopping by! Any change that gets us out of a rut is good, in my opinion. My habit was to make resolutions, or non-resolutions, and then goals. Going with the flow will be an interesting challenge.

I’m starting out the year the way I hope to go forward. More time writing and exercising. So far, three whole days into it, I’m sticking to it.
Patricia says
That’s excellent, Susan! I won’t claim I’m exercising much yet (sidewalks still icy in places from the last snow are now covered with new snow so Sassy and I are doing our walking and playing in the back yard). But I am getting other work done and prioritizing my tasks. If I could get rid of this cold, that would help too.
Margot Kinberg says
I really like your attitude, Pat. I think life’s a lot more sane and healthy if we stay flexible and in tune with ourselves, rather than aspiring to a goal that might not end up working out for us. Growth and evolution aren’t always what you plan that they will be…
Patricia says
Goals and resolutions are very stressful, aren’t they? Still, if I can block out those writing times….I can still choose to do something else instead if the mood strikes. I mean, a lovely day and a camera should not be denied. ๐
L. Diane Wolfe says
I didn’t set any resolutions, but I just planned out my first work week and it also involves more writing time for me.
Patricia says
Hi Diane! I’m holding out for more reading time too. If I can only convince Katie Cat to let me have my thirty minutes back in the morning while I drink my first cup of coffee…
Donna Volkenannt says
Hi Patricia,
I agree with your approach to the new year, to reclaim as much time for writing as possible. It seems that time goes by faster with each passing year. And I firmly agree that social media is a time and energy waster.
Patricia says
In my efforts to reclaim that time, Donna, I’m trying to develop a serious denial streak concerning housework. ๐
