In Defense of Delia is frontier fiction, originally published in hardcover by Five Star/Cengage in November 2022. I have now released the novel on Amazon as both an ebook (currently on the Kindle Unlimited plan) and a trade paperback.
Set in the fictitious village of Sangamon, Illinois, in 1838, the novel continues the story of several characters from Wishing Caswell Dead (1834). The main character of the new novel, Delia Pritchard, has returned to Sangamon after running away thirteen years before. She had a rough life after leaving town under a cloud of suspicion. Some think she murdered her parents and then set their cabin on fire, abandoning the family’s stable to the care of her fourteen-year-old brother. Some believe she has been running with outlaws and may have killed a lawman. Now Delia returns on a Palouse stallion. She’s dressed in men’s clothing, suffers from a bullet in her shoulder, and leads a pack horse with a seven-year-old black boy astride. If not for the new doctor in town, Delia would most likely have been run out of town with no mercy.
If you read In Defense of Delia, I’d be grateful if you would post a review on Amazon.com.
