At the moment, I don’t have a lot of time to read for fun. That hasn’t stopped me from adding more books and e-books to my collection. Here are the latest.
From the library, I have a physical copy of Fangs Out by David Freed. Via Library Overdrive, I have a copy of the e-book, The Road to Character by David Brooks. And I have placed Holds on The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George; The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work by Shawn Achor; and through inter-library loan requested Donald Trump’s The Art of the Deal.
I recently purchased Red Lightning by Laura Pritchett, Death of a Bride and Groom by Allan J. Emerson, and pre-ordered The Child Garden by Catriona McPherson.
Here’s the worst (actually the best) part: I’ll be attending the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Colorado Gold Conference near Denver September 11-13 where many of my friends will have their newest releases on sale. In order to get signed copies, I deferred purchase of Susan Spann’s Flask of the Drunken Master and Lake of Fire by Mark Stevens, among others. And one of the keynote speakers is Jeffery Deaver!!! As usual, I’ll come home with another big bag of books.
Remember I have four bookcases full of unread fiction and nonfiction already. This is just one of them. I used to say three bookcases, but now I’m counting the bookcase up in my office where all the books on writing (as well as a shelf of overflow paperbacks) are kept. Here Katie Cat is in the living room, pulling books off a shelf and dumping them on the floor so she can climb in and push the rest of the books out from the back. This is one of many ways she tells us she’s bored.
Considering I write, critique manuscripts, and indulge in lots of other everyday activities, when do I have time to read?
I do a little here and a little there and every once in a while I go on a reaching binge. I’m way behind, as you can imagine.
Even my addiction to dark chocolate is not this bad. Thank goodness! If it was, I’d be gaining about five pounds a week….or more.
What about you? What are you reading now…or what was the last book you read? Was it a good one? Should I add it to my list?
