If You’re a Writer, Maybe You Should Visit Colorado! (Also Common Taters and Fried Cabbage)

January 5, 2016 By: Patricia

Some of the most awesome scenery in the world serves as the backdrop for at least three excellent writers’ conferences in 2016.

Pikes Peak Writers Conference will be April 15-17 in Colorado Springs.  Registration is open now.

Northern Colorado Writers Conference is scheduled for April 22-23 in Fort Collins (north of Denver) but information on the schedule and registration is not yet available.

Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Colorado Gold Conference will be held September 9-11 in Denver. We’ll post a note here when registration opens approximately May 1st.  Currently RMFW is in the process of accepting conference workshop proposals, so check out the links on that website if you’re interested in presenting.

If you live in Colorado, check out these three organizations for some of the best networking and educational programs you’ll find anywhere.

In a side note:

Look at this most fun award I received from blogger Holly Jahangiri (It’s All a Matter of Perspective) who says I’m one of her top commenters…or Common Taters as the award says.

If you’re going to be a blogger, it’s important to connect with other bloggers and comment on the posts you enjoy. I slacked off a lot last year and am trying to get back into the groove, but here’s the thing. Holly’s posts tend to grab my attention and invite a response…and that’s how bloggers get comments. I hope to do better at the “attention grabbing” thing this year as well.

Fried Cabbage

Somewhere in my past life I learned to love cabbage fried in a tiny bit of bacon grease with onion and green pepper. Now I also peel a little smoked sausage and cut it into small pieces to add zippy protein. I know my mom never fixed it, so I’m guessing I picked it up from a friend while I lived in Indiana.

Does anybody else eat this food? Have you even heard of it? Is it a regional favorite in some part of the country?

Meet Patricia

I read, I write, I blog, and sometimes I do the laundry and cook. My 2014 novel, Dead Wrong, was a finalist in the thriller category of the 2015 Colorado Book Awards. Wishing Caswell Dead (Five Star/Cengage, December 20, 2017) is a historical mystery set in 1830s Illinois in the fictitious Village of Sangamon. The novel was a finalist for the 2018 Colorado Book Awards for General Fiction. My most recent release, In Defense of Delia (Five Star/Cengage, November 2022), is available in hardcover and will soon be available in ebook and trade paperback. Read More…
