Yesterday I passed on gift book recommendations from Natasha Wing, Teresa Funke, and Laura Backes. Here are some more ideas from more of my author/blogger friends.
Gary, an author and illustrator who focuses on the world of nature, recommends Frisbee Dreams by Libby James for upper elementary and middle grade readers. Frisbee Dreams is about a couch potato girl who learns about the joys of competition and friendship. He also recommends Dickens’ Friends: Reflections on a Therapy Dog Team by Judie Freeland which would be a good introduction for children to the joys of therapy animals, especially if there’s a family member living in a health care facility.
Gary’s own books are excellent for those who love the earth and all the creatures on it. For a very special nature lover of any age in your family, take a look at Confessions of a Time Traveler.

Kerrie Flanagan has two books in her Claire and the younger twin brothers series, Claire’s Christmas Catastrophe (The Trouble with Two) and Claire’s Unbearable Campout (The Trouble with Two).
Pam Wolf wrote this delightful and very popular book about a well known therapy cat in our town, Jake’s Gift: The Story of a Cat That Wouldn’t Quit. Jake had a lot of problems that prevented him from being adopted into a forever home. Maybe that was meant to be, because Jake ended up bringinggreat joy to a lot more folks than just one family.
Nancy L. Reed published one of the most fun books of the year, Questions: So many questions. You’ll have just as much fun reading this one to a youngster as the child will have trying to answer the questions (or get you to answer them).
