I’ve Only Broken Two Things on this Site So Far

January 10, 2016 By: Patricia

Well, at least one of them has been broken from the beginning. My Contact page doesn’t work, and I had no luck yesterday getting it fixed. It does say a message has been successfully sent, but nothing ever shows up in my email Inbox (or in Spam).

Similarly, I do not get emails when someone leaves a comment on my blog posts. I just have to keep checking the blog to see what’s happening there. This has also not worked since the beginning.

With the updates, however, I broke the Plugin that displays cute icons for my social media. The links are still there, but the icon symbols have scurried off to the twilight zone.

It looks as if some of my Plugins have not kept pace with the latest WordPress update. I hate it when I have to spend so much time visiting forums to look for solutions. I hate it when I have to spend hours combing through documentation and code to figure out what’s wrong. I spent almost all day trying to figure that Contact Page out and failed.

I’ll probably end up taking the easy way out. I can remove the Plugins and just type the links to my email and my social media accounts on their own page. For me, the best solution is to Keep it Simple….because WordPress and the Plugins my designer installed are making me feel way too stupid and annoyed. I’m supposed to be revising a novel and instead I’m fooling around with this.

Okay, enough ranting. Anyone else having website or blog problems?

Meet Patricia

I read, I write, I blog, and sometimes I do the laundry and cook. My 2014 novel, Dead Wrong, was a finalist in the thriller category of the 2015 Colorado Book Awards. Wishing Caswell Dead (Five Star/Cengage, December 20, 2017) is a historical mystery set in 1830s Illinois in the fictitious Village of Sangamon. The novel was a finalist for the 2018 Colorado Book Awards for General Fiction. My most recent release, In Defense of Delia (Five Star/Cengage, November 2022), is available in hardcover and will soon be available in ebook and trade paperback. Read More…
