I’m a creature of habit, so when I find something I like (something that won’t hurt me or get me into trouble), I tend to turn it into a regular part of my schedule.
The rice cake with peanut butter has become the one constant in my lunch. I usually add a piece of fruit and a few carrot sticks to round out the meal.
I have a small piece of light cheese and an organic blueberry toaster pastry (unfrosted) with a few quarts of coffee while I read the morning paper (the real one that is actually printed on paper and tossed at the end of our driveway).
And I drink a can of low-sodium vegetable juice every day.
My life is all about habit, and this year I’m all about establishing new constructive habits while breaking some of the old non-productive kind.
It’s supposed to take about thirty days to develop these new routines, although I must say my toaster pastry breakfast and peanut butter lunch took a lot less time than that.
The things I want to do more of: Exercise, write, read, listen to music, learn to do something totally new (like playing the drums or speaking Italian), work in my yard and garden, and go out to breakfast more often.
Things I want to do less of: Watch television, play spider solitaire, and whine about not having enough time or energy to do the things I want to do more of.
Needless to say, I have my work cut out for me.
