Writing is Like Riding a Carousel

November 18, 2013 By: Patricia

You keep going around in circles, hoping that this time you’ll pick the horse that breaks loose and gallops off to to Wonderland.

The amazing thing is…sometimes you really do pick the magic horse.

Hang in there, whether you’re doing NaNoWriMo or just writing at your own speed. And if you haven’t had much luck with that carousel in your town, maybe it’s time to find a new one. There’s a pretty cool carousel in San Francisco. This one is in Golden Gate Park.

I’m with you, Patricia on roller coasters. I can find easy ways to throw up. Carousels are more my speed. But finding the magic, break away horse…yeah, I’d like that.

Some days I feel like you could compare my writing ups and downs to bumper cars…

I thought writing was like a box of chocolates! I’ve lived life on a roller coaster and on a carousel. I very much prefer the carousel these days…

I love carousels, Susan. If I had one close by I’d visit often…and probably start writing stories about a dream world with magical horses.

Alex is so funny. We have a beautiful carousel at Hershey Park, a few miles from my house. My last book came close to galloping away, still hoping.

Alex, I do not ride roller coasters. I watch other people ride roller coaster and get sick.

Margot and Julie, The carousel in Golden Gate Park is really nice. It’s in an enclosed pavilion so there’s only room inside for the riders and their families. Makes it cozy.

Well said, indeed. I love carousels by the way. I think they are such lovely works of art. 🙂

Or maybe you need to go ride the roller coaster instead!

Meet Patricia

I read, I write, I blog, and sometimes I do the laundry and cook. My 2014 novel, Dead Wrong, was a finalist in the thriller category of the 2015 Colorado Book Awards. Wishing Caswell Dead (Five Star/Cengage, December 20, 2017) is a historical mystery set in 1830s Illinois in the fictitious Village of Sangamon. The novel was a finalist for the 2018 Colorado Book Awards for General Fiction. Read More…
