The best blog posts I’ve read this week

May 7, 2016 By: Patricia

I’m such a busy little bee these days. My blog is a great example of the things I’m neglecting in order to get other things done. This is not true of many of my favorite bloggers, so today I’m going to send you to the posts I read this week that will most likely improve your life, especially your writing life (or make you laugh which is even better).

First is Inspiratus Interruptus by Joe Hartlaub at Kill Zone blog. If you struggle with phone interruptions or finding blocks of quiet time for your creative pursuits, you’ll want to read Joe’s suggestions.

Are Women the Better Hunters? by Teresa Funke on the Medium site. This is a humor post that speaks the truth about men as hunters and women as gatherers.

I recommend any post from Colleen M. Story’s Writing and Wellness blog. This is the best place to go for information on improving our physical and emotional wellbeing.

The most popular post on the Rocky Mountain Fictions Writers blog in the last two weeks was The Truest Voice of All by William Kent Krueger. If you’re a writer who hates being stuck in a genre rut, this is a must-read article.

I will be spending next week with my mom for her 97th birthday, and I won’t have much computer time. As a result, there will be no author guest the week of the 9th through the 15th. My guest lineup returns the week of May 16th when I’ll have feature Darcie Wilde, Rex Burns, and Trai Cartwright.

Enjoy time with your mom. And of course, women are better hunters.

I’m sure there are women hunters better than me – I don’t hunt! Or fish. I’d just starve in the wild…

Thank you for including me, Patricia! It’s much appreciated. Joe Hartlaub

You’re so welcome, Joe. I just wish I could get Sassy Dog and Katie Cat to pay attention to the notes I put on my door. As for the phone, my latest tactic is to answer the phone on the first ring and then hang up. I think it messes up the robo cycle or something because the constant callers usually drop our number off their list after I do that once or twice.

Thanks, Pat, for sharing those posts. I always love learning from what bloggers have to say! Enjoy your visit with your mother.

Hi Margot — if I were being a good little writer, I’d be writing instead of reading blog posts…but then look what I would have missed!

Meet Patricia

I read, I write, I blog, and sometimes I do the laundry and cook. My 2014 novel, Dead Wrong, was a finalist in the thriller category of the 2015 Colorado Book Awards. Wishing Caswell Dead (Five Star/Cengage, December 20, 2017) is a historical mystery set in 1830s Illinois in the fictitious Village of Sangamon. The novel was a finalist for the 2018 Colorado Book Awards for General Fiction. My most recent release, In Defense of Delia (Five Star/Cengage, November 2022), is available in hardcover and will soon be available in ebook and trade paperback. Read More…
