Author Karen Walker is Planning an Anthology on Aging

Anthologies are an adventurous undertaking, but it sounds like Karen is ready for the challenge. She says:

I think an anthology such as this could speak about aging in a unique and fascinating way—through the eyes of those going through it. It will be about the challenges and opportunities that come when you reach that point in life where mortality is a more imminent reality. About how aging changes you, or doesn’t. How it impacts your life, both positively and negatively. Does your way of thinking change? What about your behavior? Have priorities shifted? Do you think about dying? Do you hate the way you look? These are just some of the topics I’d like to see included.

I am seeking essays from adults 50 and above. If you’d like to participate but can’t write for some reason, I would be happy to interview you. Whatever the age of our readers, hopefully they’ll find a kernel of wisdom that touches their hearts.

For more information and to see the things that have provided the inspiration for the project, visit Karen’s blog. She wants submissions by September 30, 2016, and her contact information is in her blog post.

I’m thinking about that anthology. Wish I wasn’t old enough to qualify!

But with age comes wisdom, Susan. Just think of all the life experience you have to share. 😀

I wish we had conferences here or at least ones closer.

We are very lucky in Colorado, Diane. The Pikes Peak Conf is way south in Colorado Springs, Colorado Gold is in Denver, and Northern Colorado Writers is up here in Fort Collins. And there’s at least one in Wyoming…

I think that’s a fantastic idea for an anthology, Pat! What a great idea. Thanks for sharing. And the workshop sounds terrific, too.

Planning for an annual conference for the next year always starts soon after the current year’s event. It takes that much hard work and time to accomplish the types of events held in Colorado by the top writer organizations. Pikes Peak Writers holds their conference in the Colorado Springs area, usually in April. I haven’t attended that one yet, but it’s on my bucket list.

    I saw Karen’s post. Sadly, I qualify…

I qualify even more than you, Alex. But just think of all the life experience we can share and all the things we’ve learned along the way. I’ll bet you have a lot to offer so hope you submit something to Karen.

Meet Patricia

I read, I write, I blog, and sometimes I do the laundry and cook. My 2014 novel, Dead Wrong, was a finalist in the thriller category of the 2015 Colorado Book Awards. Wishing Caswell Dead (Five Star/Cengage, December 20, 2017) is a historical mystery set in 1830s Illinois in the fictitious Village of Sangamon. The novel was a finalist for the 2018 Colorado Book Awards for General Fiction. Read More…
