Sassy Loves Star Wars Movies

January 5, 2017 By: Patricia

Sassy watched all of the Star Wars movies with me when TNT ran the series (up to but not including The Force Awakens and Rogue One). Her favorite scenes include war/fighting, space ships flying at top speed, the robots, or the aliens. I think her most favorite character is Jar Jar Binks. Sassy even recognizes some of the Star Wars music themes and will come running from another room to plant herself in front of the television.

A LONG WAY YOU MUST GO, YOUNG SASSY, A JEDI KNIGHT TO BECOME.

Katie Cat and Sassy are getting along well these days. They will even nap in the same area, although not touching each other.

KATIE CAT AND SASSY DOG AT NAPTIME

They chase each other around the house sometimes, but I haven’t been able to catch the action on camera. All goes well as they take turns chasing, unless Katie gets cornered. That panics her and kitty turns into fierce tiger to make Sassy back off.

When my husband and I were younger and in school or working, we never had a chance to get to know our pets this well. We are in awe of their intelligence and their ability to learn. They bring us more joy than we ever imagined they would.

And also a few complications: Katie Cat will not let me read during my early morning coffee. Instead, I must have her on my shoulder or in my lap, constantly petting and scratching and tummy rubbing. Not until I go to my computer will she leave me alone.

Sassy, on the other hand, expects Facebook or You Tube time each morning to search for videos of dogs, cats, and/or babies and little kids. I try to limit her to 15 minutes of scrolling down the Facebook updates where we usually find enough to make her happy. She gets a little impatient when I’m writing or checking email because it’s so boring.

SASSY WAITING FOR FACEBOOK TIME

One thing I don’t have a photo of yet is Sassy sitting in my lap to read the newspaper. She’s been doing that for a couple of weeks now and it’s pretty silly to see her checking out all the photos and big ads, sometimes poking a picture with her nose. I’m not sure she’s telling me she likes the picture or wants me to turn the page.  I’d love to know what these critters are thinking sometimes.

Life is so much better at our house with pets. Katie Cat was adopted from the Larimer Humane Society when she was about four months old. She turned six last October. And Sassy was my brother’s dog, so we adopted her after my brother died. Sassy will be five years old in April.

    Hi Patricia, how are you?

I love the names of your pets Katie Cat and Sassy Dog, both are so adorable. And looks like they get along well 🙂

Your stories make me miss my cat so much. She always insisted on sitting on my lap when I was reading and at my feet in my writing office. Pets so make life sweeter. Glad the two siblings are getting along.

Hi Susan! I can’t even imagine what life was like without the two now that we’ve had them around for a while.

Aren’t pets funny like that? I have to go snuggle with Rocko for ten minutes every morning on our bed or she just won’t leave me alone. And our late cat Hobbes had a thing for any show featuring cats or snakes.

Hi Diane. Such distinct personalities…it’s amazing.

Love this! Especially the part about Sassy reading the newspaper – too funny!

I had pets growing up, but never considered myself a real pet person until my husband and I got the tortoises. They’re not the usual pet, I know, but they really are personable and we love having them around. 🙂

Tortoises sound interesting. I also hear rabbits and pot-bellied pigs are fun pets. A young friend of mine has hens in her back yard. They all have names and apparently very distinct personalities. Exploring the world of animals is quite an adventure.

Sassy has good taste in movies.
Don’t let word get out how much you spoil those two or you’ll have every dog and cat in the neighborhood wanting to move in.

Hi Alex! It was great fun watching the whole series of movies and watching Sassy watch as well. Bill and I have promised ourselves (actually, more like me promising Bill) that we’d adopt no more cats or dogs. I wonder if I could sneak in a gerbil or maybe one of those cute floppy-eared bunnies….

It sure looks as though Katie and Sassy are having a good winter, Pat, even if it means you don’t have quite as much uninterrupted time as you wish you had. And it’s very good to hear that they’re doing well together, for the most part. I think that sort of adjustment takes time. May the Force be with you all!

I wouldn’t give up either one of them willingly, Margot. They’re more important than time.
