Off with the cast

Today is the day my pretty pink cast is taken away and I get to see if I can handle crutches. And a walking boot. Another new adventure. Wish me luck on that. I suspect I’ll have some leg and ankle strengthening to do before I’m walking normally.

I’ll be bidding so long to the rental wheelchair I’ve relied on for the past month and a half. I’m not sorry, although I give it credit for making my arms and shoulders a little stronger. Using a wheelchair made me feel pretty helpless. I have a new awareness of the inconveniences and discomforts that come with being immobile.

Writing progress

rp_22880516-194x300.jpgI’m working on revisions to my novel tentatively called Out of Control which is a sequel to Dead Wrong. I plan to find a more original title as I go along. I’ve learned my lesson about skipping the title search before committing–it’s really not good to have a title that has been used dozens of times. When a reader searches for your book’s name, it would be great if it popped up first on the list, right?

My Dead Wrong does not show up at the top of the list. As a matter of fact, it’s hard to find unless the reader searches with my name. Sometimes we learn things the hard way. (P.S. I put one of the links here just in case you’ve been frantically searching for my book and haven’t found it yet–available in hardover and ebook.)

I abandoned the Camp NaNoWriMo project about halfway through the month and went back to the real wip. I will not call that a failure, because I now have more than 19,000 new words written for the month, and over 17,000 of them the beginnings of a brand-new story. Excuse me while I pat myself on the back for making good use of my housebound time. With a little effort, I could actually finish my wip by the end of May and have it proofread and formatted for submission.

Must not slack off. Must not allow a creeping spring fever to take hold.

The new website and blog

Happily, a soft launch of my site is working out well. I still have a lot of things to add to footers and sidebars, but I’m taking my time on that so I won’t mess up the basic simplicity I wanted here.

Hosting guest authors will be a weekly Thursday event beginning May 7th with Mar Preston. Mar writes the Dave Mason detective series and has also penned a couple of nonfiction books on mystery writing. You can check out the list of her works on her website.

I’ll be back with a new post on Monday. I have family visiting this weekend so it’s time to turn off the computer and focus on fun!

So happy to hear you’re getting your cast off, Pat. I hope you have a smooth recuperation. In the meantime, it’s good to hear that you’re moving on with your revisions. It can be really exciting to see what evolves from revisions, even if they are tough at times. Wishing you well…

19,000 words in a month is nothing to sneeze at. I like your new website. However, I liked the old one too.

Meet Patricia

I read, I write, I blog, and sometimes I do the laundry and cook. My 2014 novel, Dead Wrong, was a finalist in the thriller category of the 2015 Colorado Book Awards. Wishing Caswell Dead (Five Star/Cengage, December 20, 2017) is a historical mystery set in 1830s Illinois in the fictitious Village of Sangamon. The novel was a finalist for the 2018 Colorado Book Awards for General Fiction. Read More…
